A ‘Mies’ inspired exhibition building in Huludao in Liaoning province, Northwest China.

beijing-based practice META-project, has shared with us their recently completed ‘huludao beach exhibit center’ along the
coast of dragon bay in the fishing town of huludao, liaoning in northeast china. positioned upon the beach, the facility
intends to vitalize the area into a resort and residential hub, serving the millions of visitors each summer. only 100 meters
for the crashing waves, the building provides an exhibition area, gallery, cinema, cafe, event area and playing fields to support
the activities of the beach-goers and activating the city’s cultural life.the form is first based upon panoramic views at a variety of elevations towards the sea. with 2/3 of the structure cantilevered
over a ground level plaza, the first floor and roof deck provide ideal points for observation of the landscape and ocean.
contained by an inclined cube, the opaque enclosure around the stairwell adds a sense of mystery to the spatial sequence,
revealing the views after ascending the stairway.
